EngageAR is the State Service Commission supporting the Governor's Advisory Commission on National Service and Volunteerism. The office is housed under the Arkansas Department of Education, Division of Higher Education.The Governor's Advisory Commission on National Service and Volunteerism is a bi-partisan commission made up of passionate commissioners who believe that citizen engagement through volunteerism and national service is vital to creating strong, vibrant communities. Each commissioner is appointed by the Governor and together they assist EngageAR in establishing volunteer and national service goals/priorities for the state. They promote meaningful volunteerism and national service throughout their communities and Arkansas and serve as the fiduciary agents for awarding the federal AmeriCorps grant funds.EngageAR believes that by engaging citizens in meaningful and impactful volunteer opportunities and service, we have the chance to tackle chronic social issues that keep Arkansans of all ages from living up to their full potential. We envision a state that has citizens who are engaged in service to others and communities that are transformed by that work. The Office administers the AmeriCorps program and other federally funded national service programs. In addition, EngageAR works with a wide-range of nonprofits and faith-based organizations from across Arkansas, supports Service Learning for K12 through college age students, and provides consultation to municipalities developing city service plans.
