Engine Room, also known as Engine Room Hollywood and Engine Room VFX is an American creative arts studio that provides visual effects (VFX), live action production, and motion graphic design services to the film, television and media industries. It is located in Los Angeles.Founded in 2001 by visual effects supervisor and cinematographer Dan Schmit (owner), together with executive producer Michael Caplan, the company maintains clients at major movie studios, television networks, and advertising companies. Their visual effects and motion graphic design work can be regularly seen on numerous television programs including NBC's Will & Grace, ABC's Splitting Up Together, FX Better Things, ABC's The Rookie and the upcoming Netflix series AJ And The Queen. In motion pictures they have collaborated with auteur directors Tom Ford, Rob Reiner, Floria Sigismondi, Richard LaGravanese, Nick Cassavettes, Ana Lily Amirpour and Justin Simien.The company hosts a seasoned live action production unit, which has produced national commercials for clients including Reynolds, Scotties, Horizon Milk, Sony, Tylenol, and Target.Engine Room has an evolving business model and is also a producer of web-based VFX production tools. In 2017, QuickFX.com was launched as an on-line portal for custom visual effects production through Engine Room's TPN approved artist facility, and local LA team of VFX veterans. The company also regularly taps its proprietary artist-recruiting site, www.RadarHollywood.com, where they presently contract work to individual CG artists globally.
