Englewood Community Development Corporation (ECDC) strives to nurture and embody "love of neighbor" in the areas of affordable housing, economic development, and comprehensive community development on the Near Eastside of Indianapolis.ECDC's asset-based approach recognizes first the strengths of its community rather than its deficits. Becoming an independent 501(c)3 in 1997, ECDC began as an outgrowth of Englewood Christian Church (ECC) a few years prior. While the congregation has been in the same location since 1895, in the mid-90's its members began to rethink and reshape the congregation's presence in place. Almost all of our staff and the vast majority of our board members live within the Englewood Neighborhood. Because we care about every aspect of shared life with our neighbors, and because we believe fiercely in developing local neighborhood-based capacity, the organization has enacted a wide array of projects and initiatives. While we strive to serve all neighbors, most major projects or initiatives have sought to directly build community with and/or develop the capacities of children, seniors or low-income neighbors.Key Programs include:- Homeowner Development and Repair- Affordable Housing Development and Management (including 5 multifamily buildings)- Resident Supportive Services- Englewood Recreation (Near Eastside Soccer Alliance & Indy Rooftop Hockey League)- Job Creation & Retention- Strategic Acquisition & Development- Business Façade Grant Program- Social Enterprise (Uplift Produce)- P.R. Mallory Redevelopment (tenants: Purdue Polytechnic High School, Paramount Englewood)- DayStar Childcare Supports- Englewood Review of Books
