Nonprofit Organization Management - Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa
Our mission is to improve the lives of abandoned and underprivileged children through various housing, feeding and skills development initiatives in Western Cape, South Africa. These sustainable strategies empower the communities to better care for their abandoned and vulnerable children. It is vital that both the emotional and physical needs of these vulnerable children are accounted for in ways that will provide them with hope for a better future – because we all know that hope is imperative for change to occur. We are passionate about ‘making a difference'… trite and overused, but true nonetheless and here are some facts and figures to show you why….- Over 13 million children in South Africa live in poverty, they are forced to survive off less than R604 per month- Over 3.3 million children live in a household where there is child hunger- South Africa is experiencing the highest HIV/Aids epidemic in the world. As a result South Africa is a country populated with a large number of orphans, with the latest figures estimating the number of orphans in SA to be a staggering 3.6 million- 87 000 children live in child headed households. A child-headed household is a family in which a minor has become the head of the household often due to the fact that their parents have passed away because of HIV/Aids or they have just upped and left, never to returnTo visit these children and to positively influence their lives is a privilege and an honour and an absolute life changing experience. They are warm and open, and within a few minutes of being there you will find a small hand in yours or a little person clambering up onto your lap.
