Growth as a Priority Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, I press on to take hold of that for which Christ took hold of me. - Philippians 3:12 We all find ourselves at different levels of maturity in Christ. But the good news is that we all have the capability to grow deeper in our relationship with Jesus. In fact, we are all tasked to making our growth in, and service to God a top priority in our lives. Even after realizing this truth, many begin asking the question, "How do I go about making spiritual growth a priority in my life?" That is why Enon church has organized several practical steps to help assist all people in the growth process. We pray that each and every person finds these growth steps meaningful as they challenge us to mature and become stronger in our faith. Keep in mind that each individual's growth journey may be different. Although certain steps may come before others, not all of them may be taken in the order they are presented. The important thing is that we are all taking steps to grow and mature in Christ. Growth Steps 1. 40 Days of Purpose Purpose Driven Life, by Rick Warren, has become the "Bestselling non-fiction hardback book in history" according to Publishers Weekly, all because of the Christ-centered approach the book takes to answering life's most fundamental question: What on earth am I here for? In this growth step, we encourage you to buy a copy of the book, seek someone to read it with you, and go on a 40-day reading journey together. The process of growing with another Christian is as important as the great material you will be reading together! 2. Growth Principles Growth Principles is a Growth Group class offered on a regular rotation during Spring and Fall semesters. In this class, you will learn about the foundations of growth. What does it mean to be a disciple of Christ? How do I become the best disciple I can be? As you go through the Growth Group, you will be addressing these questions and many more as you are challenged to take a serious look at how your faith can become substantially stronger. Also, since our growth is propelled by participating together, we encourage everyone to pair up with another member and take the class as growth partners. 3. Walk to Emmaus The walk to Emmaus is a three-day retreat filled with Christian renewal and formation. The objective of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and equip the local church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, communities and places of work. This step requires a sponsor who has prayerfully considered the right candidate to send for an inspirational weekend. We encourage you to talk with a church leader and be added to the list of potential Emmaus candidates. 4. Sharing Testimony Everyone has a story to tell and God encourages us to "let our light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16) Testimony is simply a story of the ways God has worked in our lives and how we've grown since we first accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior. Enon church provides ample opportunities for people to share testimony. Friday nights at Celebrate Recovery, Wednesday services, and Sunday morning worship are all avenues utilized to share testimony with others. Resources to help structure, provide feedback, and leadership support are all available for those willing to take this growth step. 5. Advancement Track In addition to the growth principle class, additional options are available and offered to potential leaders in the body of Christ. These classes are designed to sharpen the leadership skills and advance the growth of candidates looking to go deeper into service roles. Spiritual Leadership What is the difference between being a spiritual leader for Christ and being a manager or team leader in the workplace? This class will address ways in which people can keep their focus on growing deeper, while also helping their influence reach wider to make a positive impact in the lives of others. Ministry Coordination There are basic leadership skills that are good for both inside and outside the body of Christ. Organization, personal leadership, and conflict management are among several topics addressed in this class designed to instill great leadership practices in the hearts and minds of all willing to participate.
