Environmental Washout Systems Details

Next to oil spills, the most common contaminants come from cement and cement type products such as grout, mortar and stucco, often disposed of on the ground and by equipment washed out with no containment or control of spillage. Concrete washout is a slurry of fine Portland Cement particles in water or suspended sediments. Washout water is caustic and considered to be corrosive with a pH near 12, essentially the same as Liquid Drano®, Ammonia, or other household cleaning detergents. Clean up of concrete washout can be an expensive task, typically saved for the very end of a project and often not accurately budgeted for. The clean up usually involves an excavator and/or skid steer and gravel trucks all charged on an hourly basis. Concrete recyclers don't take any concrete material that is contaminated with soils and clay thus forcing landfill disposal. Landfills often charge extraordinary amounts for disposal of mixed loads.E.W.S. provides watertight portable bins that capture and contain all of the waste water and washout material, eliminating almost any possibility of spillage and thus protecting surrounding properties and the environment. The bins are capable of holding 30 plus washouts from conventional mixer trucks. The bins are ramped to support the washouts of pumper trucks and are capable of holding a couple pumper truck washouts in addition to the mixer truck washouts.Excess water can be removed via our truck mounted vacuum system. This helps to eliminate spillage during loading and hauling as well as keeps excess water out of the bins maximizing the room for washout material. Once set the washout material can be hauled away and disposed of in an environmentally safe manner. Washout material is excepted at all concrete recycling facilities and is crushed down for construction aggregate. The solid concrete washout waste is weighed and can contribute to LEED® Materials and Resources credits on a project seeking LEED® certification.
