The use of infrared thermography is truly only limited by the imagination. In many applications, the use of infrared thermography is limited due to the safety of the person or vehicle that must carry the imager into hazardous environments, or difficulty of access to the target. Infrared Thermography applications can be greatly expanded by mounting the Infrared imager on a drone. Now, the thermographer can safely image hazardous or difficult to access targets remotely, not placing the operator in danger. Falling from heights has one of the highest fatality percentages in industrial and commercial industries. In addition, significant cost reductions can be realized in the following areas:• Expense of operating manned aircraft.• Costs associated with placing the thermographer close to hard to access targets such as power lines, industrial facilities and equipment, building envelopes, etc.• Thermography efficiency due to travel time for targets that are spread over a large area (solar panel fields.)
