Sports - Honolulu, Hawaii, United States
Although our company's reach is global, it is first and foremost an "ohana" (Hawaiian for "family"). This spirit of ohana goes beyond just its employees and staff and encompasses the athletes, their crews and volunteers from around the world who collectively undertake incredible athletic journeys in adventurous settings that provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences.EPIC5 was born in 2010 as the brainchild of Jason Lester (2009 ESPY Winner), who along with Rich Roll, as the second endurance athlete, and Rebecca Morgan (our company's current Chief Operating Officer), as the sole source of operational and logistical support, undertook the epic proof-of-concept journey of completing five ultra-distance triathlons (each one 140.6 miles / 226.3 kilometers) on each of the five main Hawaiian Islands (Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Maui, and Hawaii) in five consecutive days--covering a total of 703 miles / 1131 kilometers. This proof-of-concept event, which took Jason and Rick seven days to complete as a result of bicycle mechanical issues and no immediate access to replacement parts, is at the very soul of our company. It is this epic proof-of-concept undertaking in 2010, that has spurred the many ultra-endurance events that have occurred since under the EPIC5 flag both in Hawaii and beyond. As amateur ultra-endurance sport participation continues to see explosive growth around the globe and "everyday" men and women are undertaken herculean endurance activities, our vision is to be the preeminent provider of athletic experiences where all participants (athlete, crew, volunteers, and staff) are offered the gift of spiritual, mental, and physical growth by way of profound physical challenges in adventurous and unforgettable settings.
