EquipAfrica Charitable Trust was founded in 2013 and registered in 2014, by nine Queen Mary University students who saw a problem in healthcare system in Sub-Saharan Africa and wanted to provide a solution.Originally we aimed to provide medical equipment and training to hospitals across the continent, notably in Nigeria and Chad. According to a paper published by the WHO, in sub-Saharan Africa up to 70% of equipment donated lies idle due to lack of training and technical support. During her medical work experience in Nigeria, our lead trustee experienced a number of deaths due to the lack of medical equipment and training. However in 2018 we eventually realised we could provide more sustainable solutions to healthcare problems in the Sub-Saharan Africa via implementing hypertension guidelines and training. We're now embarking on projects in Nigeria and aiming to work in other Sub-Saharan African countries once our guidelines have been tried and tested. We are a currently a small organisation run by 100% voluntary power, working to make a difference. One way or another we Equip, Enlighten and Empower!
