Sports Clubs/Sports Entertainment - Toronto, ON, US
Co-founded in 1995 by Toronto Police Service's Chief Bill Blair and Bayside Rowing Club's Head Coach Dominic Kahn, the Eric The Red Rowing League for Kids get officers and kids "pulling together" for a safer and healthier community. In 1993, rowing in Toronto was only available to kids from wealthy private schools: Upper Canada College; Branksome Hall and Havergal College. Then, the question was, what if we could get "public school" kids rowing? And even further, what if we could get our most needy inner-city kids the same access to a great sport as the wealthy private schools? At the time, we called it Toronto Rowing for Youth (TRY): a program to bring rowing to public school kids with a specific emphasis on underprivileged, youth at-risk. Since then, the program grew and evolved into the Eric The Red Rowing League for Kids!Since 1993, with a lot of blood, sweat and tears, Bayside Rowing Club has managed to raise over $4 million for our kids through innovative programming and revenue-generating initiatives. Over 10,000 have come through our programs.
