Apparel & Fashion - Perth, Western Australia, Australia
ericaamerica is an Australian Menswear label started by Erica Wardle and Lucas Bowers in 2001. ericaamerica is known for its sharp technical cuts, historical references and custom textiles which has been referred to, by critics, as "uber masculine". The label is owned, designed and directed by Erica Wardle and Lucas Bowers. The label took off nationally after hitting the catwalks as part of Mercedes Australian Fashion Week. The label presented the first ever menswear only individual collection show at AFW and was the first WA label to do a runway show at New York Fashion Week. ericaamerica created another AFW first when they released the "Viva Le Incroyables" collection in the form of a short film screened at the cinema of The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (A.C.M.I). The movie was distributed as a limited edition DVD. This began a growing practice by ericaamerica to explore new ways to present fashion based work. In addition to catwalk showings ericaamerica has consistently exhibited in galleries and museums throughout Australia and internationally. ericaamerica's gallery oriented work employs a multiplicity of disciplines. With a focus on immersive installation and diorama inspired work with a strong reference to the naturalist science of the Victorian period, the label creates works not only with garment but with custom made furniture, machinery, decorative objects and new textiles techniques. By turning their attentions to forms of expression not traditional to fashion ericaamerica have bridged the divide between art and fashion. ericaamerica is also well known for its collaborative initiatives with artists such as French performance artist Orlan, renowned Bio Art group Symbiotica, Perry Farrel of Jane's Addiction, pianist Alexander Boyd and Luke Steel of Empire Of The Sun / Sleepy Jackson. The duo have also won a number of national and international awards and honours.
