La Escuela Nueva Hoja is a non-profit private school for students Pre-Kinder through grade 6, located in Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica, on the Osa Peninsula. Our school was founded in 2006 by Elizabeth Oden and Terry Huisman, to provide an educational experience both academically rich and environmentally appropriate for the children of our area. We use the internationally acclaimed Calvert Home School curriculum. La Escuela Nueva Hoja is fully accredited in Costa Rica. U.S.A. and International accreditation is available through the Calvert Advisory Teaching Service (ATS) option. Our mission is to create new learning opportunities for the children of Puerto Jimenez. We hope to change the future for our community by producing bilingual graduates with open minds, ready to change the world or, at the least, to be eligible for a variety of jobs. We want them to be prepared for life in ways that benefit their future and that of our remote, biodiversity rich environment. At Nueva Hoja, we are committed to Learning Through Adventure. Children are educated using an adventurous blend of classroom, field, and community study and service that makes learning at Nueva Hoja meaningful and valuable in ways that no ordinary classroom can be. Learning starts in the classroom and is expanded upon in the field via projects that bring together directed activity and the extraordinary surroundings we live in.
