Furniture - Mumbai, Maharashtra, India
Essajees is a unique service that offers customers old collectibles as well as the chance to custom make a wide variety of bespoke furniture and accessories. It all started in 1890 by Abdul Kadir Essajee, who curated a space where Mumbai's elite could privately browse the finest items, sourced carefully from many royal families of India. As India's foremost antique and textile dealer, Mr. Essajee's name soon became an acronym for fine goods. His son Saifuddin Sham studied Indian bronzes and Mughal miniatures and from 1944 continued his father's legacy. Passing on his keen eye to his son Mohamedi Sham, the business entered its third generation of operation and diversified into a variety of fields. This is when Essajees took age-old Indian techniques into the 21st century in bespoke projects using a wide variety of materials and techniques, working with the globe's top designers and in the most prestigious projects. Essajees Atelier is a bespoke interior design service that has been recently launched by A K Essajee's great granddaughter Sarah Sham to compliment the various custom-made options available to our clients. Sarah completed her undergraduate degree in Art History from Duke University in Durham, USA and Oxford University, UK with a 3.7 GPA. She then pursued her Interior Design degree from Rachna Sansad, Mumbai where she ranked overall first in her graduating class. Essajees Atelier includes design for both residential and commercial spaces and a highly qualified team is in place to execute a project from concept to completion.
