What's in a name? When my ancestors came to America following their harrowing experience during the Holocaust, our last name was Etchacovitz. My grandfather, Hyman Covitz, felt the name was too cumbersome, and never one to be passive, shortened it to "just" Covitz. But, it's always been a part of our family history and brings me fond memories of my grandfather. To "etch" means literally to leave a mark on the world. Traditionally, through engraving, it can also reference the impression we make on others. I feel strongly that words leave a mark on our hearts and can have a lasting impact on others. I enjoy helping others to craft messaging and put their thoughts into words that reflect their intention and sentiment. It is incredibly rewarding work. From helping new businesses grow to seeing a graduate student defend their thesis after months of revisions, or a non-native English speaker have their research finally be published, my freelance work gives me purpose, grounds me, and provides a connection to the amazing work others are doing to contribute to the greater good. I provide the words, they provide the inspiration.
