WHO WE ARE Established in November 2000 by the Howick Community Church as a faith-based, non-profit "Place of Hope" for victims of HIV-AIDS in Mpophomeni township, located 14km south-west of Howick, the Ethembeni HIV, AIDS & TB Ministry has since grown into a social outreach programme that covers much of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands stretching as far as Mooi River. Through our programmes, we strive to bring hope to families affected by HIV, AIDS and TB in the KZN Midlands by providing comprehensive gender-specific care, with our Jesus-based ministry central to all that we do. Our vision is to see families free from HIV, AIDS and TB by providing sustainable, holistic care for people living with HIV/AIDS/TB and giving them the tools they need to build self-reliance and resilience. Since our inception we've supported at least 5,000 vulnerable adults and children infected—and affected—by HIV, AIDS or TB across the KZN Midlands, impacting on more than 25,000 direct beneficiaries. WHAT WE DO: THE CORE PILLARS OF OUR MINISTRY Through our holistic, programmatic response, we are both catalyst and problem-solver. We don't just chase numerical targets, but also sensitively navigate through complex underpinning behavioural triggers and social and cultural beliefs that may inadvertently accelerate transmission and infection rates. Our ministry programmes not only strengthen immune systems, but also mitigate the wider impact of HIV-AIDS by building resilience within families and a strong, cohesive community. HOW YOU CAN HELP US By far the largest portion of our spend is on the nearly 100 heroes who make up our fight against HIV-AIDS. Should you wish to make a donation towards supporting their compassionate care and help us expand our income-generation initiatives to make Ethembeni fully sustainable, or join us as a volunteer, please drop us a mail at enquiries@ethembeni.co.za or visit our website at www.ethembeni.co.za.
