The Office of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber at the Permanent Representation of Austria to the EU was founded in 1989. As a co-initiator of the Austrian accession process, the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKÖ) has always attached priority to European integration and actively pursued it. This has not changed since Austria's accession in 1995. In July 2019, the EU Office of the Austrian Economic Chamber was upgraded as the EU representation in order to optimally represent the entire Economic Chamber organisation on the EU-level.The EU representation of the WKOE is part of the diplomatic representation, which considerably facilitates our work with the EU institutions. As a result, the EU Representation of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber is in permanent contact with all offices in the Permanent Representation (federal ministries, all social partners, the liaison office of the federal states, the Association of Cities and Municipalities and the National Bank) in order to actively promote the concerns of the Austrian economy.Furthermore, the EU Representation of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber acts as an interface between the Chamber and the institutions of the European Union and cooperates with the most important associations at European level. It maintains intensive contacts with the relevant Commission services as well as with the members of the European Parliament. The EU Representation also has access to an extensive network of contacts in European institutions and associations. The EU Representation supports the departments and divisions of the WKOE with know-how, alliances and a local presence in Brussels. The EU Representation of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber is thus the central interface between the EU decision-makers and the WK-Organisation in all economically relevant EU agendas.
