International Affairs - Vitoria-Gasteiz, Basque Country, Spain
Born on February 1, 1951, the Basque Council was constituted in Paris by the European Federation, later called the Basque Council of the European Movement. In 2006 it was renamed EUROBASK, and in 2016 EuroBasque. In 2017, 22 years after its re-launch, EuroBasque has more than 100 members in its Assembly, having organized more than 130 days and made various calls and awards aimed at the education, university, institutions, media and Basque society in general, on the most varied and diverse topics, paying special attention to the which have special incidence for Euskadi. Begun the XXI century the Basques, a millennial people present in the European construction since its inception, we wish to renew the commitment with the construction of a Europe united from peace, freedom, democracy, diversity and solidarity. Faced with the new challenges and political, economic, cultural, social and ecological challenges that globalization entails, we demand more Europe. The noble ideals that made European reconciliation possible must be transmitted to the new generations, because only knowing the sacrifices, intelligence and humanism of those Basque pioneers in Europeanism, will young people be aware of the value of a European Union capable of overcoming suffering of fratricidal wars and undemocratic regimes, as well as the need to take the witness in the defense of democracy, freedom, social justice, diversity and respect for the human rights of all people. Europeanism, that formidable utopia of peace, reconciliation and freedom, is a meeting place that has united, unites and unites all Basques. Therefore, from EuroBasque we pay tribute to all those who have made it possible for a small town to have been present in the development of one of the most fascinating projects in the history of mankind: United Europe.
