Public Safety - New Orleans, LA, US
Evacuteer.org annually recruits, trains, and manages evacuation volunteers (Evacuteers) who assist with New Orleans' public evacuation option program, City-Assisted Evacuation. We serve to prepare and register evacuees, ensuring their ability to evacuate safely and with dignity. City-Assisted Evacuation (CAE) will run when a mandatory evacuation is called in Orleans Parish. It begins approximately 54 hours before a storm makes landfall, and will run for 24 hours straight. We expect that there are between 35,000 and 40,000 New Orleanians without a safe or alternative option to evacuate who will need to use this resource. Our organization has been featured on CNN, ESPN, National Public Radio, the Huffington Post, the Times-Picayune, The New York Times, The LA Times, the Associated Press, ABC 26, Fox 8, WDSU and the Gambit for its community and citizen engagement strategies in preparing New Orleanians for hurricane season and safe evacuations.
