Imagine for a moment that you hear the words every parent dreads . . . "Your child has cancer." For many rural and impoverish families this sentence can be a death sentence. One of the most difficult challenges facing a parent is finding safe, sanitary housing while a child undergoes treatment, which can last for days, weeks or even months. "We witnessed many children dying unnecessarily; leaving families in desperate situations and without a hope," notes Kristina Andersen, Founder, Managing Director, Cebu Center. Everlasting Hope bridges the gap for these families by providing sanitary housing for a child and parent, with transportation from rural home to the Center and to medical treatments. Everlasting Hope, a local registered NGO with certified social workers, a 24/7 staff provides health assistance, referrals to financial assistance, prescriptions and often augment medical expenses. During the global COVID-19 pandemic, the work of Everlasting HOPE remains even more critical with frontline caregivers spending weeks at the center. Located near cancer treatment hospital in Cebu, Philippines, The Everlasting HOPE Center provides healthy meals, clean water, safe play, arts, recreation, within a secure 24/7 guarded facility. "This was creating huge barriers to proper medical care for our children in the Philippines.
