Counseling can be intimidating, especially if you’ve never been before. You might have an idea based solely on what you see on TV, such as someone sitting on a couch, hashing out their problems that seem way out in left-field. Like the saying goes, that picture of counseling services only happens in the movies. We all have issues because we all were raised by imperfect parents who did the best they could. Some of us have experienced traumatic experiences that have shaped our views of the world and how we interact in it as well as our views on others and how we interact with others. Some of these interactions are unhealthy as we’ve developed coping strategies that can hinder our progress in relationships and in other aspects of our lives, such as career. There is no shame in seeking out individual counseling services. There is nothing wrong with wanting to better yourself and have the life that you desire. Professional counseling happens between a certified therapist who tailors the counseling session to you and your needs. A counselor’s job is to discover what is causing your particular behaviors, and, yes, that can bring up memories, actions, or events you are uncomfortable with. However, if you want to grow and change, you have to make the uncomfortable comfortable — at least for as long as it takes you to deal with it. Evolution Wellness in Wilmington, NC, helps individuals, couples, and families solve their problems and make positive changes in their lives. We understand that people are messy — and that’s OK. It’s our job to help you clean up your mess, so you can see the beautiful you underneath.
