Music evolves and challenges are notion of what music is supposed to be. Nowhere is this more true than with our fifty year journey into the possibilities of electronic music. At Exoblue Records, we focus on music artists who create electronic music in over 20 genres by experimenting with new possibilities and not letting rules and conventions hold them back. When most people hear the term electronic music, they think of it in a few obvious ways. To some, it means electronic dance music (EDM) such as what you hear in clubs. Then there are those who will think of it as some type of soundscape or background music such as is common with new age. Others liken it to music about outer space and world's beyond us. Finally, there are many who see electronic music as forming the backbone of many current pop songs. Yes, it't all of these but this does not define nor limit what can be created with electronic music. And even within these obvious uses, it can be twisted in surprising and unexpected ways. The truth is much more complex and maybe even subversive to some purist. Electronic music received its first major exposure when it was used to augment some famous rock groups music such as Pink Floyd and then become the core sound of other groups like Emerson, Lake and Palmer. The mixing of real guitars and drums with electronic music production became known as progressive rock. Since then, electronic music has become a mainstay of hip hop and rap. It has crept into many music genres. During the last decade, there have been major movie scores that were electronic music. In movies, we can go back to the early eighties where the score to the movie "Risky Business" was created by electronic music pioneers Tangerine Dream.Our visionary music artists push past the barriers that have traditionally defined electronic music. While their songs may be moving, enjoyable or energetic, they explore how sound can be shaped and bent in surprising ways even within traditional genres.
