By rescuing excess fresh food from businesses, securing freshly-made meals, and immediately delivering the food to nonprofits serving Marin's most vulnerable children, seniors, and families, we address the critical issues of hunger, wasted food & climate change.ExtraFood's county-wide food recovery program picks up excess fresh food from any Marin organization – such as restaurants, grocery stores and caterers – and immediately delivers it to nonprofits -- such as homeless shelters, food pantries, and after-school programs -- serving Marin's most vulnerable people. And our Community Meals program works with restaurants and caterers to make meals -- 50,000+ during the pandemic. Seniors, children, working families, the homeless, and many more -- our goal is to help our safety net partners serve more people, provide more complete and healthy meals, provide more nutritious groceries, and shift food program funding to their other services.Since we began operations in December 2013, ExtraFood's staff and 700 volunteers have organized, rescued and delivered more than 3,900,000 pounds of food from 250+ donors to 129 sites throughout Marin, preventing 390,000 pounds of methane from entering the atmosphere. The 46,000 food donations we've delivered include fresh produce, prepared food, dairy products, eggs, meat, packaged goods, and bakery goods. We reach more than 8,000 people every month with our deliveries of healthy, fresh food.ExtraFood is led by a team of experienced professionals, including Founder and CEO Marv Zauderer, Board Members and longtime Marin restaurateurs Heidi Insalata Krahling and Dan Ohlson, and Board Members Paul Austin, Carla Buchanan, Tracy Stempel Hogan, Brian Monahan, Kevin O'Donnell, Matt Slepin, and Miguel Villarreal.
