Primary/secondary Education - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, United States
Extraordinary Extras is a nonprofit using Fun Education to Fight Poverty. We are currently working locally in Norman, OK doing a tutoring program for at-risk middle school students struggling in school, and our BIG goals are to expand worldwide. Our first large program will be a Library/Youth Center in the Philippines to benefit poor and homeless children. In developing countries like the Philippines, the amount of extreme poverty is so huge, and a big part of that is lack of quality education. Children have to pay to go to school, and their families can barely afford to eat in most cases. If they can go to school, there are 60 students per teacher, and the teachers don't always even show up. Public libraries are nonexistent in many places, and books are ridiculously expensive. Education is just not a priority. We want to make it a priority, but we also want to make it FUN! We want kids to want to spend their day at the Library and learning, so we are going to have an interactive incentive-based program. The kids will earn points for their reading, learning, and other academic achievements, which they can use to buy fun activities, such as swimming, gymnastics lessons, hiking and ziplining excursions, etc.We can't wait to start this program. If you would like to connect with us in any way with local or global programs, please let us know. We are currently applying for grants and planning our fundraising strategies, while running our tutoring program.
