Philanthropy - Bloomington, Indiana, United States
Face-Off for the Forces is a lacrosse-based philanthropy located in Bloomington, Indiana. The event started in 2014 with just two fraternities, playing on a grass field with no lines 20 minutes off of campus. However, those two teams were able to raise an incredible $11,000 dollars for the Wounded Warrior Foundation. Since 2014, the philanthropy has grown in many different ways. There are now 10 fraternities involved and, most importantly, we are now benefiting the Hoosier Veterans Assistance Foundation (HVAF) based out of Indianapolis. HVAF's mission is to provide housing and reintegration services to veterans that are experiencing homelessness. By administering specific programs and services to at-risk veterans, they are able to help prevent many others from ever becoming homeless. Last year, 2,259 veterans had a safe place to sleep thanks to the efforts of HVAF. Additionally, 1,205 family members, including 554 children, received the counseling and guidance they needed to help become self-sufficient. This charity is unequivocally the most beneficial program for veterans within our state. Last year, with the help of Face-Off's donation of $35,000, HVAF began to implement a new and improved DART program, helping veterans overcome drug and alcohol addictions.
