About Us:The Fair Housing Council of the San Fernando Valley (Council) is a non-profit organization, established in 1958, whose mission is to serve the community and vigorously pursue the eradication of unlawful housing discrimination in the rental, sales, lending and property insurance markets through leadership, education, policy advocacy, outreach, training and enforcement activities. The Council's objective is to implement programs to promote equal access to housing opportunities and services regardless of age, race, color, ancestry, national origin, religion, disability, mental or physical, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, marital status, familial status, source of income or other characteristics protected by law, to ensure inclusive, diverse, vibrant, accessible and sustainable communities. Pursuing justice is the underlying principle woven into the Council's programs and activities, which are designed to increase awareness and understanding of fair housing laws by providing community outreach and training to housing providers, lenders, real estate professionals, local governments, and all other housing-related entities, whether private or public about federal, state and local laws fair housing laws. In furtherance of its goals, the Council investigates individual and systemic complaints of discrimination, provides direct services to individuals and families experiencing housing bias , advocates for distressed homeowners in mortgage lending cases, engages in activities to enforce the development and construction of accessible housing, accepts and tracks complaints of hate violence, monitors compliance and/or post settlement obligations, advocates for safe and secure housing and champions public policy that ensures equitable access to public accommodations and economic opportunity.
