Building Materials - The Hague, South Holland, Netherlands
Fairm (fair materials through fermentation) is an impact-oriented biotechnology start-up. We believe that natural should be the new normal. Because nature doesn't know the concept of waste, so why do we? Our mission is to contribute to a waste free society by developing and applying nature-based solution. To begin, we do this for the construction industry, currently responsible for one third of all waste produced. Our first range of materials are foam-like bio-composites that resemble cork and Styrofoam. However, they are fire safe, have a lower environmental footprint and are completely compostable. These and other material properties can be customised to meet specific product requirements. Likewise, the shape in which our materials are made can be tailored to seamlessly fit our client's applications. Scoring high on both sustainability as intelligent application we believe our Fairm-Foams are set to be the insulation material of the 21st century. All of that is achieved through the natural process of fermentation merely using local waste streams. In our production we upcycle local biomass waste streams – like straw, reed and tomato stems – into valuable materials. Making buildings heathier and more comfortable while preventing the creation of waste before production and after use. To accelerate our development, expend our impact and embed our solution into society we work together with a diverse and ever-growing network of organisations. We can't and don't want to do it alone. So please get in touch to tell us about the opportunities you see for our free-form, circular and natural styrofoam alternative.
