Photography - Huanchaco, La Libertad, Peru
FairMail is a social enterprise based in Huanchaco, Peru. We produce fair trade greeting cards and photo products with pictures taken by underprivileged Peruvian teenagers. FairMail was founded by Janneke Smeulders and Peter den Hond in 2006 and it is now run by former volunteers Kira Beck (Germany), Federica Micozzi (Italy) and Natalia Stehle (Germany) who met in Huanchaco for the first time in Septembre 2015. FairMail's mission is to: 1) Empowering disadvantaged teenagers through photography. Thanks to the sales of their images, our teenagers can fund their own education and grow into the adults they want and choose to be. We also offer personal development support through workshops aimed at fostering the teenagers' self esteem and self-confidence. 2) Bringing a beautiful and innovative product on the market. Most of the images of the Southern Hemisphere countries found in greeting cards today are pictures taken by professional photographers coming from Northen countries. We want to reverse this perspective and make sure that the people living in Southern countries are the same people that capture the beauty that their country has to offer and, most importantly, benefit from it. 3) Raise awareness of the impact of social entrepreneurship and inspire people around the world to adopt a business approach to help solving social problems.
