FamilyCore specializes in parent and family education programs. We currently work in Massachusetts' Houses of Correction, providing programs for incarcerated parents and future caregivers. FamilyCore also works with other community based organizations to provide parents with education, knowlege, and understanding that will help them help their children to learn and grow. It is well known that children experience a type of trauma when a parent or caregiver is incarcerated, and that there are other sources of childhood trauma such as divorce that impact the ability of some children to cope with change. Children who experience separation and/or loss often engage in pain-based behaviors that bring a higher level of frustration, tension, anxiety, into the home. FamilyCore provides participants with research based methodologies to navigate challenging behaviors that are likely to be seen in their children.Through activities, lecture, and small group discussions, class participants are given a toolkit of approaches proven to enhance communication and improve the self-esteem of children and other family members, as well as their own esteem in their ability to reconnect and have meaningful relationships with those who matter most. The typical course is 16 hours in duration, and is taught over a period of 8 sessions.
