Farmer Welfare Africa (FWA) is an IMPACT-driven Civil Society Organization whose concise purpose is to work towards breaking away the vicious circle of poverty that is passed down from generations to descendants of smallholder farmer families. We deploy shared value mechanisms to guide and set farmer families off onto a new paradigm of consistent long-term sustainable wealth creation. The events of the novel COVID-19 global pandemic became the catalyst that accelerated the idea for the birth of FWA. At the onset of the pandemic, smallholder farmers became the most impacted group of people as their welfare vulnerabilities were gravely exposed during lockdown curfews imposed by governments across the world. Ironically, before long into the pandemic, the health crises metamorphosed into food crises, especially across Africa. The smallholder farmer's profile consequently rose into recognition as the world's most essential frontline employee of everyday except with no corresponding rewards for their sacrifices.Regrettably, while 99% of the estimated 9 million smallholder farmer population had no welfare benefits to fall on as relief, most corporate and government employees were quick to turn to their income-replacement insurance policies, contributory pension funds, redundancy packages, government stimulus payouts, and other financial instruments so to cushion the impact of the pandemic on their families. These livelihood safety net disparities between the farmer community and other professions – who incidentally feed off the toil of the farmer – is what FWA has set out to bridge.Ultimately, we believe that the multiplier effects of the IMPACT that we drive will bring dignity and respect to the farming profession and would attract Africa's youthful, educated, population to begin to explore this noble and sustainable livelihood opportunity - farming.
