Fata Morgana (fah-duh mohr-gah-nuh) is an experimental studio working at the intersection of art and design. We combine traditional craft processes and design to build research-driven brand identities, create experimental books and prints, and collaborate with artists on letterpress and (soon) offset printed editions. Fata Morgana Press is located in the Chicago Sustainable Manufacturing Center in Bridgeport. The studio began in 2015 when Mary Clare Butler and Amy Leners purchased a Vandercook Universal 1 proofing press. Angela Davis Fegan joined the collective in 2017 and together they have acquired an offset press, a small collection of wood and metal type, and several giant chunks of cast iron / bookbinding equipment.
