Nonprofit Organization Management - Springs, Gauteng, South Africa
Father Figure is an initiative by Lifa LeKhaya Foundation, a registered NPO with the Department of Social Development, that aims to encourage and advocate for the presence of fathers in their children's lives through awareness campaigns, public activations/events. This initiative is hosted by the male members of the organisation and a group of volunteering men that are actively present in their children's lives as a form of positively showing off the fun and the importance of being present in your child's life as a father. The programme also serves as a present father to those children who have absent fathers or their fathers are not actively involved in their daily activities. It was founded by Nkosinathi Nathi Mahlanyana who was born in Gugulethu, a township in Cape Town, he grew up in the typical township home set up where the mother of the child lived with her parents and her siblings, however he's father was very much present in he's life and upbringing.Nathi is the founder of the Lifa LeKhaya Foundation which honours the memory of he's late cousin (Lifa) and brother (Khaya) who tragically died in a backyard shack fire in 2006. The foundation was founded in 2015, this foundation was inspired by the early death and lost potential of he's cousin and brother. Nathi realized that an intervention was needed in the township, one that encourages men to take part and be present in the upbringing of their children, to prevent tragedies that lead to young potential being imprisoned, being involved in criminal activities and substance abuse or dying young. The name of the foundation Lifa LeKhaya translates "The Inheritance of a Home" the inheritance in this case, if viewed on a negative light took two promising lives, however on a positive note, it gave birth to an organisation and it is now the fire that burns within and motivated the creation of the Father Figure Initiative.
