The Foundation for the Sustainable Development of Mountain Regions (Fondation pour le développement durable des régions de montagne, FDDM) is a semi-public entity based in Sion, in the heart of the Swiss Alps. Its global scope and mission is to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. The Foundation works at the strategic level with local governments and on projects in Switzerland and other mountainous countries worldwide. We focus on Education, Cooperation and Events, providing guidance for local government, schools, the private sector and civil society. To achieve sustainable development at local level and in mountain regions the FFDM: - coordinates the Agenda 2030 at subnational level (Canton and municipalities of Valais)- fosters and supports projects worldwide and encourage research on sustainable development, through partnerships with specialized institutions- raises public awareness among schoolchildren, students, businesses and government officials- serves as a reference point on all activities related to the progress of sustainable development in mountainous regions. We strive to ensure that sustainability is part of the political culture and socio-economic fabric, and is central to all decision-making processes, whatever the sector, the scale and the scope.
