The Fast Data Project (FD.io) "Fido" is a collaborative open source project that aims to establish a high-performance IO services framework for dynamic computing environments. The FD.io Community includes Network IO, Packet Processing, and Dataplane Management Agents fostering innovations in software-based packet processing towards the creation of high-throughput, low-latency and resource-effi cient IO services suitable to many architectures (x86, ARM, and PowerPC) and deployment environments (bare metal, VM, container).A key component of FD.io is the Vector Packet Processing (VPP) library contributed at the foundation of the project. The commercial-ready code is already running in products on the market today. VPP, when connected to DPDK for network IO, has shown to perform two orders of magnitude faster than currently available open source options implementing switching or routing workloads, reaffirming one of the core principles of FD.io: a focus on performance.FD.io is a Collaborative Project hosted by The Linux Foundation.
