On the 24th December 2008 Pam Trujillo (CEO) founded Femaura with the support of Yi Savva (Co-founder/Director).A need for a Deaf led Social Enterprise was recognized from the many barriers faced by Deaf people within society. The interpreting agencies in operation at the time were failing to meet the needs of Deaf people. From a Deaf perspective, it is vital that Deaf people stand up for their rights, with this in mind Femaura was created, a step forward to empowering Deaf people.Upon the establishment of Femaura, many requests were received for interpreters, deaf consultation and one to one BSL tuition. As a result of this Femaura's paths widened to what it is today. In 2009, following the expansion of Femaura, BSL courses were added to the many services already available. From the onset, the popularity of the BSL courses soon became clear, thus, becoming the main focus of Femaura. In 2011, Femaura joined ABC Awards, offering BSL Level 1, 2 and 3. With accreditation from OCN, Femaura also offer Human Rights, UN Convention and Deaf Way courses (Level 1-3).The name Femaura was created by the CEO Pam Trujillo Fe (female)-ma (male)- aura. The logo was also designed by Pamir, with her hands featuring in the design.Femaura are proud to announce that we have been recognized as quality assured through the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and Matrix Quality Accreditation.
