The first issue of Fenway News hit the streets in March of 1974, and it has been coming out every month (with a couple of exceptions) ever since. It was started by a trio of neigbhorhood organizers who were working to increase effective neighborhood opposition to urban renewal – specifically to a Fenway Urban Renewal plan that would take private property by emminent domain and turn it over to developers. One of the lasting legacies of that group of activists is the Citizen Advisory Councils that must be set up for every project supervised by the Boston Redevelopment Authority.
