Design - Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands
Colin P. Finnegan (founder FG stijl):Growing up in England, Colin Finnegan was inspired from an early age by visits to historical museums and palaces. This led to his study of interior design from an architectural perspective with additional studies in Egyptology which culminated in travels along the Nile. In 1989 Finnegan moved to the Netherlands where freelanced with various architectural offices before setting up his own in 1995. Namely FG Stijl: Designed for people. An obvious sentiment perhaps, but one that is often forgotten in an era when design saturates day-to-day life. For FG stijl, designing for people was a seedling idea from which sprung countless three-dimensional experiences, and now, more than a decade on, it is the expression of our interior design company's DNA. The first decade produced a prolific body of work, the culminating in Amsterdam's award-winning The College Hotel, which opened in 2005. These efforts secured the Prix Villégiature award for ‘Best Hotel Interior Design in Europe'. A decade later (2015), FG stijl reclaimed the prize with the flagship Park Hyatt Vienna dubbed as ‘'Pearl of Vienna'' for the Best Interior Design for a Hotel in EuropeOur visions are shaped around the people. Without any single overriding, immediately identifiable style, our aim is to understand who clients are and to place ourselves in their environment. From the initial idea, beginning with the construction of logical spatial planning, we use our knowledge of interior style to nurture the ambience of a space, as well as the way the space appears to those who will experience it. We see our role as communicating a message from a client to their guests through design and style.
