The ICMA Student Chapter here at FGCU seeks to introduce students to the theory and practices of local government management to bridge the gap between academics and real-life applications in local government. The Chapter offers a variety of benefits, in the form of education, scholarship opportunities, and networking to all its student members. Our chapter seeks to educate students on the various functions of local government by bringing in professionals in the field to our monthly meetings. Our chapter hosts educational symposiums with the Florida County and City Managers Association every semester on a variety of different topics. Our chapter is one of the only chapters in the state that currently hosts these symposiums. Finally, we attend the annual FCCMA Conference in Orlando where students can speak to professionals from around the state in order to build connections, learn valuable information related to the field, and also compete for various FCCMA Student Scholarships. These scholarships can be anywhere from $3,000 to $5,000 and in the past 3 years, the majority of them have gone to FGCU undergraduate and graduate students.
