Founded in 2014, Filmshelf pioneered a unique strategy to bring quality cinema, art and criticism to the Brisbane public. A selection of films were hand-picked by Australian critics, who wrote essays on each work. Meanwhile, visual artists crafted pieces in response to the films. The final product, a Filmcase, combined the artwork, the essay, and a DVD of the film - and were available for hire on custom timber Filmshelves in cafes around the city.
