In 1999 a music loving amateur guitar player was having difficulty getting pure tones when using his pinky and ring fingers. He decided to stack coins to the top of each finger on his fretting hand using electrical tape. The additional mass on each finger produced purer tones immediately. When he took them off, his fingers felt lighter, faster, and stronger. So he had an idea. He set out to develop practice finger "rings" to be used real time during training and warm-ups... like a baseball player warms up with a weight donut on their bat. Two criteria - adjustable weight and universal fit. Further digging told him he was not the first person to come up with this idea. There were previous attempts dating back to 1804 - long before weight training of any kind was popular, before the internet, and before there were flexible materials like we have today.
