Entertainment/Media - Watertown Town, MA, US
Flat Earth was established in the Summer of 2006 by long-time friends seeking a creative outlet. The first production, Joe, written by company member Kevin Mullins, had a rehearsal period of just seventeen days. With costumes pulled largely from the closets of actors, and a couch borrowed from the nuclear physics department at MIT, Joe made an impact with its two-night run in the Watertown High School auditorium. A year later, Flat Earth produced its first show at the Arsenal Center for the Arts, David Ives's All In The Timing. Now in its fifth year, Flat Earth has since established a pattern of producing works that cover a wide range of genres; from raucous comedy in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) to biting family drama in The Goat or, Who is Sylvia?Organized around a non-hierarchical structure, Flat Earth has no Artistic Director. Rather, all decisions from show selection down are made by a consensus-driven council in which any member may participate. Flat Earth functions as an egalitarian community of artists, a consortium of creative minds brought together in the pursuit of great theatre.
