In its infancy, running was dominated by men.And yet, in 1976, two women—Sally Edwards and Elizabeth Jansen—both teachers and best friends, at 28 years old decided to open a running store.In Downtown Sacramento, in the poorest neighborhood there was, they bought a beat up Victorian and opened the first Fleet Feet Sports. They started a lot of things in Sacramento; they started the first marathon, the first fun runs, and the first triathlons. Being part of the community is at the heart of Fleet Feet Sports.After opening a second location in Chico, people began to ask about opening their own Fleet Feet Sports ... and so the legacy began.The story of running changed from being an exclusive club to an inclusive community.
