Nonprofit Organization Management - Boston, Massachusetts, United States
FLIP (First-Generation Low Income Partnership) @ BostonU is a collective organization to support FGLI students. All minority groups face differing obstacles, and all FGLI students should have a space to be heard. While institutions such as BU may have a strict definition of what constitutes an FGLI student, FLIP @ BostonU recognizes the nuanced issues regarding a student's situation and welcomes anyone, including those that self-identify as FGLI. FLIP @ BostonU is a student-centered advocacy organization, unlike First Gen Connect, an administrative project. We are founded by and run by FGLI students who have lived through the struggle and thus understand our unique needs.FLIP @ BostonU is also a chapter of FLIP National, a national nonprofit whose core tenet is centering student advocacy and the student's voice. FLIP National outlines seven target areas in which all FGLI issues and solutions fall, including those at Boston University: awareness and visibility, academic development, housing insecurity, food insecurity, professional development, student wellbeing, and community building, and financial support. With this partnership, we join a nationwide network of support and innovation consisting of FLIP National's twenty other chapters, as well as the greater platform of FGLI and higher education nonprofits. Through our parent organization, we have access to their existing partnerships and initiatives, including a laptop lending library, FGLI conferences, and FGLI class confession pages.
