Fljótstunga is located in one of the largest lava areas in Iceland, also where most of the largest lava caves in the country are. In the land of Fljótstunga is Víðgelmir, one of the largest lava caves in the world and said to be one of its most remarkable.In Fljótstunga there are lava fields, lava caves, fishing rivers, swan lakes, berry fields, one of the oldest sheep gathering still in use, icelandic horses and unique stone formations, all that make beautiful hiking paths. It is a peaceful place, surrounded by glaciers and mountains and in winter a perfect place to see the aurora boreal (northern lights). The land has run in one family since the 1800's and is one of the five farms that originally started tourism in the country side in Iceland. In 1991 the people in Fljótstunga took the task of taking care of Víðgelmir lava cave and at the same time being responsibe of showing it to travellers.
