FloodTags is a social enterprise that helps clients analyse and monitor water (and food security) related information from online (social) media. We collect content from social media such as Twitter and Facebook, online blogs and news articles, discussion forums, communication channels such as SMS and WhatsApp and user generated app data. We analyse this content using artificial intelligence and natural language processing, combine the content with other data sources such as satellite imagery, elevation data and rainfall figures, derive locations from the content, and use it to detect events. We share the results of these analyses in real-time through our online dashboard and open API.To continuously improve our analyses, we work together with several R&D partners, including universities and research institutes. The information generated by us can be used for a variety of purposes including real-time application in flood response, historic (trend) analysis for flood preparedness, water scarcity management, water conflict resolution, integrated water management and ensuring food security. Our list of clients includes the Worldbank, United Nations and the Red Cross.
