FKDSET was founded in 2009 as a not-for-profit so children with Down Syndrome in Monroe County had access to complete developmental range of services. As a result of a personal experience, founders Joe and Nada Jones saw the benefit of a variety of activities to enhance their own child's development; physical therapy, swim classes, art therapy, dance and movement, music, gymnastics, special needs teachers, Montessori classroom, unlimited travel opportunities, dynamic living environment, enhanced diet, extensive patience in simple life skills tasks. DS Children need physical strengthening and extra work on academic development in order to achieve basic educational and physiological milestones. DS Children need to be taught at their pace and their pace requires extensive patience and repetition before they really learn. This costs money and takes time. Part of our mission is to provide services such as this along with the others mentioned, to any child with DS in Monroe County.
