Medical Practice - New York, New York, United States
FloTech was founded by Benjamin Unger, M.D., in 2009 to combine the best anesthesia patient care with advances in information technology, management and design. Dr. Unger was born and grew up in the suburbs of Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Harvard College earning a bachelors degree in engineering sciences. After college Dr. Unger worked for 2 years in Honduras designing and building water systems with the United States Peace Corps. He returned the states to attend medical school at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. His post-graduate training includes an intern year at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and then 3 years of residency in anesthesiology at the University of Pennsylvania. Upon completing residency, Dr. Unger came to New York City in 2006 where he joined the faculty of Columbia University's Department of Anesthesiology. Among other duties, Dr. Unger was appointed Director of Anesthesia at Columbia's Allen Hospital where he enjoyed applying process and system design – both high and low tech – to improve morale, efficiency and patient care. Dr. Unger left Columbia in November, 2009, to found FloTech Office Anesthesia PLLC and put his ideas to work in a different context. Dr. Unger is an active member of his professional societies, serving on committees at both the state and national level. He is a member of the Society of Ambulatory Anesthesia's (SAMBA's) Committee on Office Based Anesthesia and will be a panelist in a discussion on patient safety at the annual meeting in April 2010.
