Flying Smart is a not-for-profit organisation, which aims to assist the top 10% and lower 20% of GCSE, AS and A level students in succeeding academically and realising their full potential. We aim to do this by offering two services free of charge to schools, initially in London and eventually across the UK, these are: Grammar Stream and Spring Board.Grammar Stream aims to ensure that the top 10% of the students who have the potential to obtain: A Stars, and excel in Advanced Extension Awards, Olympiads and STEP exams are able to realise this potential by bringing in talented, high achieving undergraduates into schools as Teaching Consultants working with teachers to develop a program to accelerate the students' learning or simply supplement their existing knowledge with knowledge from outside the syllabus- which will help our schools get away from the counterproductive culture of ‘teaching to the test' which exists in too many state schools. Our Spring Board service will target the 15% of students at the other end of the spectrum. Again, highly trained successful undergraduates will work with the teachers to develop a program which is best suited to the students' needs.Undergraduates teaching both the Grammar Stream and Spring Board will be studying for degrees in the subjects they will be teaching and will teach for one and a half hours, twice a week after school.
