Food Processing - Cannon Hill, QLD, AU
One in five Queenslanders are in crisis at some point each year, dealing with the anguish and despair of not knowing where the next meal will come from. When it comes to Australian children, the picture is even more alarming with 22% of Queensland children experiencing hunger at some point each year. Foodbank Queensland is the largest and most trusted hunger relief charity in Queensland. Foodbank rescues and sources over 14 million kilograms of food and groceries each year from farmers, retails and manufacturers. This food, equating to over 25 million meals a year, is then re-distributed to more than 250 front-line charities and community groups who support over 200,000 Queenslanders each month. Foodbank Queensland also runs a School Breakfast Program. Delivered in more than 300 schools, this program feeds over 29,000 children on a weekly basis. Foodbank not only plays a role in fighting hunger in Queensland, but also plays a vitally important role in tackling Australia's $20 billion food waste problem. Despite the huge effort, Foodbank Queensland is struggling to meet the rising need for food relief with a 24% demand increase in the number of individuals seeking food relief from charities each year. To meet demand, and ensure no Queenslander goes without, we need your support. The most shocking figure about Queensland hunger is how little it takes to help. With every $1 donated, Foodbank Queensland can purchase $6 worth of food and goods through our network of food growers and producers. This provides the equivalent of 2 nutritious meals for Queenslanders in need.
