Foodshed Capital formed in 2018 with a mission to provide financial stewardship to farms and businesses fostering an equitable and regenerative local food economy. We do this through patient, flexible, low-cost financing, including a 0% revolving microloan fund called SOIL. In conjunction with our financing programs, we provide financial and business consultation and technical assistance to our borrowers, as well as ongoing training for farms and food enterprises throughout the Mid-Atlantic.Foodshed Capital was certified as a Community Development Financial Institution in 2020.Our financing provides equitable, patient, and risk-tolerant capital for farmers and food entrepreneurs who have difficulty obtaining traditional capital, especially women, people of color, low-income individuals, and new/beginning farmers. We partner with farms dedicated to using resilient, eco-friendly practices that foster soil health and biodiversity and produce healthy, culturally appropriate food for our local communities. We are also redefining the process of borrowing money, breaking down barriers and obstacles that make it especially difficult for those marginalized by the conventional financial system.
