As foreign students at an international university we spent the past year adjusting to a new country, language and culture, navigating the difficulties of integration. Although this is a challenge for any student, we realised that we are privileged, with the support of our peers and university we had help from anyone we turned to. This is not the case for refugees that enter Europe after a traumatic experience. The struggle of raising children in foreign countries without knowing the language, and not understanding the new systems, as students going through a similar experience, we could help make a difference. Force aux Femmes is a Project based at Jacobs University that aspires to empower refugee women in our communities. We aim to do so by providing them with the opportunity to take care of themselves and families, through understanding the language and culture of the country they live in.
